• Helvetica Font no longer working

    Hi there,
My Helvetica True Type Font has suddenly stopped working in all my Office programmes (despite having been installed with a legit version when I bought the PC). I tried uninstalling & reinstalling the font in Windows XP SE, but Windows will no longer recognised it as a ttf. The ttf font icon is showing up as a windows default “I don’t know what this is” icon. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling the font in another software package – The Font Thing (and please excuse the spelling – I am a Kiwi and we use UK English).
    Any ideas?

Do you know where this font came from? Neither Windows nor Office ship with a font called Helvetica.

        Hi Stuart,
I am not sure. It could have come either with Publisher 97, my printer (HP psc 2210) or with Adobe Acrobat Writer

First thing to try is to reinstall this font from wherever you originally found it. You could also try using the Microsoft Arial font, which is very similar to Helvetica.

If your font is installed, but does not show up in Fonts list of Microsoft Office applications, try to download and install

      Adobe Type Manager Light v.4.1

It is free – download the appropriate language version. Most likely your Helvetica font was come from one of Adobe programs, according to
Where can I find Helvetica fonts?

Once I saw similar problem with Type 1 fonts: they show up in Fonts folder, but not in Word, Excel and other Office applications. Installing ATM Light solved the problem.

        Hi there,
I have downloaded the programme & will try installing it. Thanks crossfingers

Thanks for your advice, but nothing has worked. Additionally, I have had the Helvetica font files sent to me from someone else on whose computer they work perfectly; to no avail. My PC will not recognise them.
If anyone has any new ideas on this, I would really like to hear. It is a PAIN IN THE PROVERBIAL having to set up files to go to commercial printers and then ask them to replace whatever font I have used with Helvetica (I can’t change the requirement for Helvetica as it is customer’s branding – and besides, Arial is not as nice).

          Stuck….

        Thanks Alan,
Yep, I use Arial as well, but I do a lot of design work and Helvetica has some slightly different properties that I need at times. I will keep hunting. Cheers!
