I received an email that said I was added to the “Geek Squad Team” Google Group.

I never realized that anyone could add someone to a Google Group without permission.  The email looks legit, it has an unsubscribe button email link – but I have concerns to use it.

Upon research, it seems I should be able to sign in to my Google Account and go to Google Groups and see what Groups I am a member of – it shows None (which should be correct).

But unless a Group shows up, there is none to leave or unsubscribe from.

Can anyone help what to do?

      Trash the email!

If you ever show up in google as belonging to a group you can unsubscribe from there.

If I had a dollar for every Geek Squad spam or scam email I had I would be rich.  Be especially careful if they contain a receipt in PDF format. DO NOT OPEN IT!!!  They are hoping your curiosity will get the better of your common sense.  It could be used as a malware carrier.

Found the attached for starters – this is new news to me!

      https://www.trustwave.com/en-us/resources/blogs/spiderlabs-blog/behind-the-invite-the-rise-of-google-group-fake-order-fraud-emails/

This search site will lead you to dozens more.

In addition to not opening anything in the email,  it seems that anyone can create a Google Group with anyone’s email. And they can then send emails out to everyone in the Group.

Other problem is that since you didnt ask to join the Group, you have no controls on getting out of the Group or their emails via normal Google Group functions.

Anyone have any ideas how to get out of this loop?
