have searched the forums but still confused.

    currently on windows 10 22h2

at some point (unbeknownst to me) when i opened up my laptop earlier this week,

“i got the message that congrats on upgrading to windows 11, it’s updating and we’ll let you know when you can install” or something like that -so no way to stop that – there was no “i want to stay on window 10, kicking or screaming” 🙂

there is nothing that i clicked or triggered — just did this on its own.

so a few days later — i got message that windows 11 is ready to install and there is a “pending restart” message.

I delayed updated for as long as i could — april 6,

but have searched the internet and see the same advice over and over but don’t know what/who to trust —

stop updates, delete certain folders, change registry key to stay on a particular version etc etc.

if there is a forum posting on this, would welcome the link. I of course am always petrified of major upgrades to my daily driver machine — have backed up everything import to hard disk, but have now idea what parts of my thinkpad software manufacture lenovo software survives and what happens to drivers etc etc.

so any guidance as to a previous post would be appreciated

First download this and ensure you set the feature/release to Windows 10

      GRC | InControl

Next delete the software distribution folder

Can you see if that gets your system to NOT install windows 11?

Keep in mind that if it does you can roll back.

Download InControl from Gibson Research. Put it on your desktop and run it. Set it for Windows 10 and 22h2.

In an elevated Command Prompt copy the following one line at a time, hit enter after each line:
      net stop wuauserv
      net stop cryptSvc
      net stop bits
      net stop msiserver
      Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
      net start wuauserv
      net start cryptSvc
      net start bits
      net start msiserver

Restart the computer (NOT ShutDown, power up). This should stop the upgrade. The SoftwareDistribution folder will regenerate.

If it does not, you will have 10 days to roll back the installation.
