• Help on getting to 1903

I tried to follow the instructions for upgrading an old but adequate occasional-use Vostro laptop from W7 to 1903 this morning, but, upon find that the download is 5GB and would take many hours over our chancy DSL connection, I opted to begin installation from the unused W10 Pro disc I purchased when W10 first came out. I declined the option to download and install all the updates, expecting that they would install 1909.

Whenever the installation finishes, I would like to get to 1903, which is apparently still the recommendation over 1909. Will some please direct me to the proper instructions? Thanks.

FLASH: Just noticed that Windows says my choice is to install W10 Home — even though the disc is Pro. Not that I care all that much which goes on this machine, but why would this be happening?

Does your Vostro currently have W7 Home installed?

Just noticed that Windows says my choice is to install W10 Home — even though the disc is Pro.

You can install the home version and than “upgrade” (no need to reinstall)  to Pro by providing the key of the Windows 10 Pro CD you have.

After you “upgrade” to Windows 10 Pro use the deferral option by setting feature update deferral to 130+ days, or downloading 1903 ISO file from HeiDoc.net.

In any case 1909 isn’t much different from 1903.

Updating from the version of Windows 10 that came on your disc to 1903 or 1909 will still have to download 3-5GB eventually.  Downloading with heidoc you can decide when you want to do it, or if you use windows update it will use background data (backing off when it thinks you are using internet) to get what it needs eventually.

Make a full image backup of your computer before you do anything.
