• Help – New Jornada 568 & Contacts sync

    Hi:

    I have a new HP 568. When I synch it invariably hangs up in the middle of the contacts synching. I’ve got betwee 5-600, and it goes up to about 250, then hangs. Next time it seems to think there are 1000 contacts, and there are random doubles or triples in my OL.

    I have Windows XP with Office 2002, Activesync 3.5. Everything else synch all right. When I tell it not to synch contacts all else goes smoothly. I have it set to only take from the computer at first, then went to do not resolve.

      Is the complete list on the desktop or PDA? If desktop, try moving all but a hundred contacts into a new folder. Sync those hundred. Then move a hundred contacts from the new folder to the real contact folder and sync again. Repeat until success or hang. If success, delete the extra folder and celebrate.

      If the sync hangs at some point, you might have a bad contact record. To find it, back the last batch of contacts out (move them back to the new folder) and try again. If that works, then move a few back and resync. Then a few more, and a few more …. Eventually you should find the contact that is hanging everything up. Print it out or copy the information to somewhere else (e.g., notepad). Delete the contact and re-create it.

      Another possibility is that your PST file is corrupt. You should run SCANPST.EXE (called the “inbox repair tool” in the help file). In a reasonable world you could run it from within Outlook (in a perfect world, the utility wouldn’t be needed at all); in the real world you have to shut down Outlook before running the tool. There might not be a shortcut for the tool in your Start Menu; if not, search c:programs for the file.

        Thanks for the help. I went back and loaded from my PC to my PDA category by category. One category was causing the trouble. I noticed that two contacts in there had attachment signs, but no apparent attachment. Deleting both made everything run smoothly.
