In mistyping I somehow turned on an attribute I dont want; now when I type the displayed text is red (not black), and a vertical line appears to the left of the paragraph. I’ve tried deleting the affected paragraphs but this seems to stick and attach to other locations . How do I turn the blasted thing off? As usual, Word Help for “deleted text” and “format text” was useless. Thanks. bash

I suspect that “Track Changes” has been turned on, or perhaps just “Display Changes on Screen”. If ‘TRK’ appears on the status bar at the bottom of the Word window, change tracking is in effect. To access this function, use Tools, Track Changes, Highlight Changes.

      Hopefully this clarifies the situation.

The “how” part could involve double-clicking the toggle area on the Status bar, or using one of the associated keystrokes (as shown in the illustration).
