    Hello,

I am in need of some help!

I have a large database that is shared among 250 users. The server the database resides on is having some problems and has caused me many headaches.

I was able to run the repair and it corrected the table problems, however, I can not compact it. The error message below is what I am getting.

“Record(s) can’t be read; no read permission on m:calendarCalendar.mdb”

I tried to export all the tables and I get an error message stating that I don’t have read permissions. I have made sure all the permission are correct.

Can the .mdw file get corrupted? What do I do if this is the problem?

It is secured and I am the admins user. Please help! I need to get it back online very soon!

    Thanks,
    Deborah

Your database is probably corrupt. If you have a recent non-corrupt backup, restoring it might be your best bet.

There is one thing you could try. If you haven’t already done so, download and install Jet 3.5 SP3 from ACC97: Updated Version of Microsoft Jet 3.5 Available for Download. It contains a standalone utility JetComp.exe that can sometimes repair problems the internal Compact / Repair cannot handle; it works with secured databases too. There is an accompanying Word document that explains this type of error.

I have to admit that I’m guessing but….

Do you have exclusive access to the database (ie. no-one else is logged on)?
Can you open it exclusively? (You’ll have to try the help system on this as I can’t remember, but I believe there is a startup option that you can use to give you exclusive control. You might want to see if that works is it may point to the problem. You may have to set up a batch file to startup the database using the the required startup option). Once you have logged on exclusively, then try to compact.
