• Headers not printing (2003)

Just come across a new problem when printing out e-mails from Outlook. No headers! Started immediately after the installation of Internet Explorer 7. Seems other people are having the same problem. (See link below)

The problem happens to e-mails created in HTML. The only work around I have found is to choose Edit message from the toolbar and change the format to Plain text. Then I get the headers. I would be interested to know if any one else has a workaround.

Another quick workaround might be to Save As in HTML format, then open and print the saved HTML file. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for embedded images, just linked images, so those who need to print with embedded images apparently will have to live with no headers for now… unless they want to try importing into Outlook Express. (???)

Added: Apparently Outlook Express has similar problems: Major printing problems with IE7 / OE6 (IE7 & WXPSP2)

I’ve been experiencing this same problem intermittently for the past several days. I’ve been using IE7 for more than a month, and it hadn’t occurred to me that the two were connected. I’d just assumed that Microsoft had finally found a way to drive me completely around the bend.

Until MS comes up with a patch, I’ll continue to make do with the work-arounds mentioned on the MSDN forums. Changing the margins didn’t work for me, but switching to plain text was successful in printing the headers, and they seemed to stick even after I switched back to html format. It’s a pain, but less so than forwarding it to myself so I could see the header information.

I ran into this problem this week when we added some new XP computers with Outlook 2003 and IE7. I wanted to let anyone else with this problem that MS came out with a hotfix a couple weeks ago to patch this problem until a service pack comes out for IE. (As described in KB931657) Its working well for me. We really needed the ability to print email headers because, as a law firm, we love to create paper files. ;-p Font is still on the small side but at least its all there now.
