I foolishly attached my slave 4.3 Gigs Fujitsu hard disk model MPD 3043AT to its power supply while the pc was still on so damaging it.
I thought maybe only the printed circuit on the outside could have been damaged so I was able to find an identical hard disk and, after making sure it was working, I detached its printed circuit and reattach in on the first hard disk but the hard disk still is not seen on boot-up.
There are basically only two connectors on the printed circuit to attach/detach.
Now, even the second hard disk isn’t detected on boot-up after putting back its printed circuit on it.
I have data on the first hard disk I’d like to recover. Any suggestions?

The obvious answer is to take it to a repair firm which says they can deal with it. (oh, you thought of that already!)

        Thanks John,
I was just wondering if you think it’s possible to swap printed circuits between two seemingly identical hard disks.

I believe this to be “Cowboy Territory”, so you may get an informed reply from him when the USA wakes up!

Never tried to do what you did – wouldn’t have the courage (nerve). I think John gave you the best advice there is, i.e. a “data recovery” business. It’ll probably cost you, but if the data is critical it could be worth it. However, if you’re willing to take ANOTHER chance, you could see if you can find a hard drive diagnostic at some Fujitsu web site to see if it can wake up the drive. There IS the chance when you do that of completely blowing your data, so be careful and read the directions if you try it.

If Fujitsu don’t have any diagnostics, IBM Drive Fitness works with most drives (that I have tried).

              Thanks Patrick,
I’ve found it here but if doesn’t work if the hard disk is not detected upon booting up.

Have you verified and refreshed the Bios setting, a surge could have affected these or you could have damaged the interface. Have your tried the HD on a different PC? Greg
