Sukhumvit is a bit, uh, busy these days isn’t it?

Yes celebrated this at Nong Phai last night. Apparently they also celebrate this in Laos and maybe Cambodia also.

Just want to say, Woody, PK, and everyone who contributes as an MVP and to those who have thrown in their own advice and solutions, Thank You. Afterall, it is Thanksgiving. It’s about the past, pilgrims amongst the indigenous, but also an interchangeable bout of riff trade where all of us who share are keeping our heads above water in the tech/home user world. Hope everyone is doing well and thanks again for all the help.

Happy Thanksgiving! – Happy Loi Kratong and Best Wishes. Thank you for the site, I’m grateful to have learned from another Anonymous user a new bit of information about Windows which made it slightly more tolerable to use and easier debug.

You might want to fix your headline!  The festival is actually spelled “Krathong“, not Kratong! (you’re missing the ‘h’)

Funny you should mention that. Transliterating Thai is one of my favorite topics.

The difference between “th” and “t” as commonly used to transliterate Thai is very, very subtle. The name in Thai is

        ลอยกระทง

ลอย” is loy, no question about it.

        But “กระทง” is something like K – R – UH – T – NG .

Admittedly it’s a tough call, although the Royal Thai General System of Transcription is on your side because ท is at the beginning of the syllable.

I still have trouble distinguishing between the spoken words “Thai” and “Tai” although the latter has a bit harder “T” sound than the former. “Bin kohn Thai” (I am a Thai person) and “Bin kohn Tai” (I am a southerner) sound almost the same to me.

Ah well. Once a farang, always a farang.
