A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, “If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50.” The boy looked around and saw no scale, so he agreed, thinking no matter what the man writes he will just say he weighs more or less. In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

He simply ASKED the boy how much he weighed. Even if the boy lied then the weight he wrote down was ‘as advised’ by the boy so it must be correct!

      Ron,

Just want to make sure you get that the man wrote down on the paper and not the boy, and he did it before the boy stated his weight. Not sure what you mean by “the weight he wrote down was ‘as advised’ by the boy”?

      He wrote “your exact weight”.

      cheers, Paul

That man must have been Bernie Ecclestone! I once read he bet someone (a German F1 guy I think) that he could swim the entire length of a swimming pool underwater. The bet was excepted – and was quite for quite a lot of money, which Bernie won. He had to explain to the person that nothing had been said about not using scuba gear….

Moral of story: always read the wager as literally as you can. Or don’t take bets with strangers.

Maud, you’d remember Willow Grove Park back in the day. I worked there one summer and guessed weight and age for a carny.

Hey, I remember you…..gimme back my 50 bucks! They were the good old days! The lightening bolt roller coaster, the Alpine, and the moon ride to say a few!

Hmm … I should have read the question.
