Your first of two statements should be used. The problem is in your LIKE statement. The format for a Like statement is:

Like (‘SomeValue’)

Try – Like (‘*’ & [FILE NAME like?] & ‘*’)

What kind of ODBC failure? What is the backend you are using ODBC to link to?
It could be that your query is taking longer than the timeout period set for it (default is normally 60 seconds), if this is the case just up the timeout value of the query.
