The Windows graphics background function doesn’t work properly in this Armada notebook. It has Win 98 with Office 97, Internet Explorer 5.5 and Outlook 2000. The lines in some graphics begin to draw properly but get erased before the screen display is complete. Like in a game board with grid lines in the background, only 2/3 of the lines (always on the right side) show, the left area is blank. Or in an options control box, with tabs above, the graphic drawing is only partially complete, many of the detail lines are missing. Is this a common or understood Windows problem? I assume it’s a Window’s problem because it seems to affect assorted programs on this machine. Thanks! Russ

      Hi Russ:
Thsi sounds like it could be a video card or out of date driver. I’d first look at the video card model, go to the manufacturer’s website & get the latest driver. You might also go to My Computer, right-click & choose properties/performance tab/Graphics button. See if changing the hardware acceleration will help.
      Cheers,

Yup, the older (2 years older) correct driver from Compaq took care of the trouble. Win98 messed up on that one! Thanks for the help. Russ

Russ, junky files on the hard drive can affect RAM, which can also cause this behavior. Make sure you’ve cleaned it up first.

Let us know how it works out, especially if it doesn’t!

How are “junky files” know to affect RAM? A nearly full partition can cause all manner of problems, but I wouldn’t think they would manifest themselves only in the display.
