I am having problems with my graphics card. I reinstalled Win98 on my machine. When irebooted it found the right graphics card as i took the card out before installing to make sure i knew what kind it was. However once it is installed it will not go to more than 16 colors, and i need it on at least 256 to run any programs. My card is a trident 9000c and is in an isa slot. It is an old pc, but i have read on the website that the graphics card will support 256 colors.

It sounds like you need to select a monitor.

While you may have the correct card drivers installed, if you don’t select the right monitor, you’ll be stuck with 16 colors.. dizzy Check that out and see if you’ve got the right one installed.

I’ve seen almost everything related to this problem, the troubleshooting steps are as follows:

      1. Ensure that Graphics card is secure in slot.
      2. Ensure that correct display type is selected.
      3. Ensure that correct card type is selected.
      4. Update Display Driver*
      5. Update Card Driver*

      * You may update these drivers by checking http://www.driverguide.com. Not only does this site link to the manufacturers sites in most cases, but they also have a download arena of thier own.

I hope this helps, if you have any problems, please post back here!

      Regards,
