I am attending a Digital Photography course and the class has been advised to consider a Graphic Tablet.
I am confused because the price varies so greatly and never having seen one I do not know what to consider.
Do they replace the mouse? I am very happy with my Logitech combo.
The prices vary greatly, the one that appeals is the Lapazz 12 X 9 Wired currently available in Oz for $149.95.
Any advice appreciated.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 17, 2010 at 3:54 pm #1213837Hi there. Tablets can replace your mouse, but many folks just use their tablets for specific uses (digital art, photography, retouching, etc), and then switch back to using a mouse for general use. I use a Wacom Intuos2 tablet for my own digital retouching, and have been very happy with it so far. Because of my bias, I strongly recommend the Wacom brand. Their basic line prices aren’t too rough, and you can get a basic Bamboo tablet for $100-$200ish that will meet your needs. Go here for more info on Wacom’s products.
I hope this helps!

AskWoody LoungerMarch 20, 2010 at 1:11 am #1214284I am on my third Wacom tablet and while I don’t know the specifics of the model you have ordered, I doubt that you have made a bad choice. The bundled software does (or can, depending on your starting-point) make the purchase worthwhile. Prices do, as you noted, vary considerably, but one factor is the area of the tablet (we tend to forget how much difference it makes when you multiply two dimensions) and another is the number of fussy details such as degrees of stylus sensitivity, which can matter a great deal when doing intricate work.
Good luck with it!
