GPT-AdBlocker is a free browser extension for Google Chrome that uses AI to block advertisement. The developers promise that it blocks all ads, including ads that are shown in videos. The extension works in other Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera or Vivaldi as well.

The extension was launched back in April 2023 and was listed on Producthunt at the time. The developers state that it was built “upon the solid foundation of Ublock” and that it uses “advanced artificial intelligence technology to block out all types of ads”. Also, it is based on Manifest V3 already, which means that it is future-proof.

Just added GPT-AdBlocker to my Chrome. Wonder how it will work with uBlock Origin installed.

After reading the comments at the ghacks website for this AI browser add-on, I am suspicious. Tony said on July 19, 2023 at 8:53 pm:

“Basically this is spyware and adware in one. I understand that by using AI, it will need to send some data to the author in order to do the AI processing, however, they go a step above. No way would I put that on my device. Their privacy policy is here: https://www.camb.ai/privacy-policy

Tony goes on to list a number of Privacy related issues that look unappealing to me. I wonder if our leader Susan Bradley’s “spidey sense would be really tingly right now” concerning this GPT-AdBlocker AI add-on. Alex5723 please let us know how it works out for you, thanks.

..and the unknown (as yet) vulnerabilities associated with AI.
A MITM attack on that query data transfer can seriously screw things up.
This is just too ‘fresh’ to put any tech faith in… YMMV

This is a Chrome extension and we know all about Chrome, Edge, Opera privacy.

I’m using Firefox Version 115.0.2 set for auto update with the following extensions:

AdBlocker for YouTube
AdGuard AdBlocker
CSS Exfil Protection
DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials
Facebook Container
HTTPS Everywhere
Logitech SetPoint
Malwarebytes Browser Guard
Privacy Badger
uBlock Origin

I don’t see YouTube ads other than those narrated by the creator within their video, and if they use timestamps, I can skip those. YouTube movies are ad free, and have been for several months, way before GPT became a thing.

I’ve never used Chrome, and have uninstalled Edge completely.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

GPT Ad Blocker does not seem to work. Unable to add to chrome.

404. That’s an error.

The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.
