AskWoody LoungerMay 10, 2016 at 4:30 pm #43024Well, sassenferatzenkramendumpf! I said that TWC had my head all screwed up and they did. They had me change to an ethernet connection and the “metered connection” thing didn’t save me. When I went to check the downloads were already started. So, I guess now I need to find some other protection from the auto-update troll. What do you suggest?

GuestMay 10, 2016 at 6:14 pm #43026Now that we know these updates are here, and having used Noel’s program, should we go in with the wushowhide tool and hide *any and everything* from Win 10?
Noel’s tool stopped anything from appearing, and that is great! I just don’t know what is waiting for me.
I am running MS office 2007 on my Win 10, are there any issues with those updates?
Thank you Woody!

GuestMay 11, 2016 at 12:31 am #43028Maybe I’m missing something here. I’ve disabled Windows Update via gpedit. When I run wushowhide and select Hide Updates, I get a list of 8 updates that I can hide. I’ve hidden the Cumulative Update, but none of the others. When I then run Check for updates, I get “Your device is up to date.” None of the 7 updates that I did not hide are shown. Why would that be?

AskWoody_MVPMay 11, 2016 at 9:51 pm #43032For those overly concerned about the telemetry issues, I have just found recently that MSRT is actually sending back information about the scan to Microsoft, once it finishes the scan. I think Microsoft Antivirus or Defender do the same. There is a manual way to configure blocking of the reporting back, which I think is done via a registry key.
Please search Google or the Telemetry White Paper for Windows Server 2016 (covering Windows 10) which I posted not long ago to find the details. Same configuration should apply to Windows 7.
MSRT is still a very useful tool and do not ignore it because of this issue. This has been going on since the tool has existed and is not a new implementation and I am not aware of any negative side-effects of the reporting back. The amount of network bandwidth is tiny, so this is a non-issue. -

AskWoody_MVPMay 12, 2016 at 6:41 am #43034Very pleased to find that the Group Policy administrative template for WindowsStore has been fixed in this CU by installing a new file WindowsStore.adml, probably missed from the previous CU which installed the WindowsStore.admx file only.
Is this documented anywhere or is just a silently behind the scenes fix without even acknowledging the problem? However it was mentioned few times in the posts addressed to John Wink last month.
