Trying to add GMail icon to desktop and the option to create a short cut is no longer in the GMail More Tools option list.
Have things been changed in the latest Google browser  Mail app or has the option been  moved elsewhere?

Thanking you in anticipation of a solutione.
    Please advise.

      Gordski,

      1. Open your Gmail Account in a browser.
      2. Click and drag the Lock icon on the address bar to your desktop.
      3. Done.

        Hi,

That process works fine with Firefox. as you quite rightly said, but unfortunately it does not work the same with Google Chrome browser.
But thank you, I can use that option with Firefox for other family members.

Click and drag the Lock icon on the address bar to your desktop.

What browser are you using?  I liked your suggestion but I don’t see a lock icon in Brave.

I did this with FireFox and I know it also works with Chrome but it’s a round Icon with to opposing lines.

Trying to add GMail icon to desktop and the option to create a short cut is no longer in the GMail More Tools option list.

      Copy the following:
      https://mail.google.com/mail
Right click a blank area of the Desktop and select New > Shortcut
Paste the above copied address into the Location box.
      Name it Gmail.

You can move the shortcut anywhere you want.

      Hi,

Thank you for recommending a (possible) solution.
However, creating the Desktop GMail icon worked fine, but it was not possible to drag the newly created  icon from the Desktop to the Task Bar.

This snip is on Windows 7.
      RIGHT-click on the desktop icon.
      PinToTB

      I will try that.

      Many thanks.

hank you for recommending a (possible) solution.
However, creating the Desktop GMail icon worked fine, but it was not possible to drag the newly created  icon from the Desktop to the Task Bar.

As indicated by PaulK, right click and Pin to taskbar.

Another solution rather than placing the icon on the Taskbar is to create a keyboard shortcut to open the target of that shortcut…Gmail web page.

Right click the shortcut and select Properties
On the Shortcut tab click the box next to Shortcut key to activate it.
Enter G and notice Windows has added Ctrl + Alt to your G to give the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl + Alt + G.
      Press Apply and OK.

Now pressing that keyboard shortcut will open your default browser to the Gmail web page and your email.

The above works as long as the shortcut stays on the Desktop. If you don’t want the shortcut visible on the Desktop, you can make it invisible and continue to use the keyboard shortcut to launch.
