I have an All contacts file, but I have many contacts divided into sub files. (a contact is in All contacts but at the same time a copy is in in, ‘business” and a copy in “family”, etc.) If there is a change (phone # for example) is there a way to update all instances of the contact without going to every copy?

I don’t know of any way that wouldn’t involve VBA or some other programmatic intervention.

But, instead of multiple copies in separate folders, why don’t you assign the contacts to categories? Then you’ll have just the single instance to update, and each instance shows up (up to date) in as many categories as needed. You can use the ‘by category’ view to see all contacts in each category. Or, if you prefer, you can define an individual view for each category you use.
