believe it or not – this is the first I’ve heard of your gizmo freeware site. My natural skepticism prevents me from finding you via google, since the site I find doesn’t have your name in the url. Can you post a link?

First, let me say that it’s been great having you here. I guess I’ll go and sign up for your newsletter again.
Second, as to the zippiness of the Zoner Photo Studio program, I have to respectfully and strongly disagree. I bought and still use ACDsee version 5 (the newer versions always seemed to drop features and functions and in general made it worthless to upgrade). Both programs waste time trying to build a database of thumbnails. Ok, fine, I disabled them. The zps program didn’t have an intuitive interface or at least one that I found useful. It seems that I had to hit the arrow keys in the toolbar. And when it did move to the next image, it took way too long to render it. We’re talking photos that are only a few meg (if that). Pressing page up or page down caused the program to hang for a very, very long time, to the point that I saw it was ‘not responding’. I finally had to kill it.
FWIW, my system is a Dell 8250, running Win XP SP2 (yeah, I will be upgrading to SP3 before July 13) with 1GB RAM, but it is 7 years old, so maybe I don’t have a zippy cpu and that’s what causing the problem? It’s a 2.53Ghz, Pentium 4.
For now, I’m sticking with ACDSee. Of course, when I get a new system at some point in the future, I’ll revisit this freebie and see if makes any difference. One thing I would like to know is if it can read the description files that ACDSee creates for each image (assuming you add a description to the image).
