Ghost Attachments (O2K)

Hello

I tried to send an attachment via email, ‘Insert/File/etc.., and the file icon appears, but it looks/is very washed out. The properties show the correct file size etc, but the recipients have reported that there is no attachment, just the > sign. I am set up for plain text, but even changing to Rich Text has no effect. The last thing I did to my computer software wise was to update my AV prog, AVG 6. Any clues?

Have not come across this before, and it sounds like something to do with the AV program. Presumably, you’ve checked the AV website? Are you using your own ISP or are you on Exchange Server? If getting the attachment sent is a priority, can you access webmail and get it sent that way? HTH

I have my own ISP on a home setup. I have sent the mail via webmail, so no major panic just yet. Interestingly, I was speaking to a recipient who had checked his mail settings which showed that he had his programme set to refuse attachments. I thanked him profusely, or ……

Could it have anything to do with attachment blocking (e.g., SP2 or later)? Does it have one of the “suspicious” file extensions?

It was a Word document, no fancy formatting or macros. The users are not computer savvy, as I have been beating them over the head to get AV and Firewall programmes installed!!!

Believe or not *.doc, the standard Word document extension counts as a suspicious attachment. This is because the security function is “guilty unless proven innocent”. Word documents CAN include macros, therefore they are all assumed to do so!
