    With all of the new AskWoody Loungers brought in by way of the Windows Secrets Newsletter, I get lots of questions about getting started on the site.

      In the upper right corner, click on your username or your picture (“avatar”). Then click Edit. The password change boxes are under “Account.” by the way, you can see the status of your Plus Membership subscription there, too, under

      Checked on my Profile and don’t see status of Plus Membership under Account or anywhere else….?

        So what’s that on your avatar?
        Yes, the ribbon signifies you are a plus member.

        I’ve heard that some folks can see the Plus Membership status under Subscriptions. Can you?

        One of the efforts high on the list for after the Windows Secrets Lounge absorption — swallowing the whale — is to come up with a one-stop report of your Plus status.

          I could yesterday. But not today.

          • #335010

            Yeah, I wonder what’s up with that.

            One more reason to get the centralized user status report going. But first, the whale.

          The only items I show under Subscriptions are 2 categories:

            Me, too. But, as b said, some accounts used to be able to see their Plus memberships.

      I know you are busy with new members signing up, as I am one of them. Can you plaese advise how long before the Gold Ribbon + will appear on my (blank) avatar?

      Please email CuutomerSupport@AskWoody.com and Woody will be able to answer the question for you.

      Uh, I think you meant CustomerSupport@AskWoody.com

      For those who are completely new to bulletin boards (we were all newbies at one point, eh?) I just put together these detailed instructions:

      If you want to start a new question – in WordPress speak that’s called a new “Topic,” you need to choose a forum on the right. Then on the left, scroll down until you see something like this “New Topic” box.

      Type a short description of your problem in the “Topic Title” box. That’s what people who are skimming the forum will see.

      Below that, type your full message.

      Then at the bottom click Submit.

      If you found a question (a “Topic”) and want to add something to it, you can either (1) reply to a post or (2) add something new to the end of the Topic.

      If you want to reply to a post, above the post click the REPLY button.

      If you want to add something to the end of the Topic, scroll down.

      In either case you’ll see a box like the one in the New Reply shot:

      Type whatever you’d like to include in the discussion and, at the bottom, click Submit.

      And to add to this, if you copy and paste from HTML programs such as Word,
      please use the text tab to create your reply or topic and paste your HTML info into the ‘Topic Box’
      See screenshot below:

        This isn’t guaranteed to prevent html code being posted accidentally, sadly. We’ve had reports that just copying from our site into the Text tab on the editor box causing the issue, using both Edge and Firefox.

        Another note: The Tags box shown in @microfix’s screenshot is a topic tag – please leave the tags associated with the topic already, but relevant tags can be added where appropriate. Individual tags get separated by commas.

          I can’t see a tags box in @microfix’s screenshot. 🤔

          • #339033

            Right next to “Code”

            • #339038

              That’s a button, not a box.

              The button refers to BBCode tags, not topic tags referred to by @Kirsty.

              (And the close tags button seems to do absolutely nothing when I click it.)

          • #339066

            Scroll down below the text box and you will see:

              … and I don’t see Topic Type or Topic Status below this reply text box either.

            • #339090

              @b-

              You can go to the test forum and start a topic… and scroll down there… if you simply want to see what it looks like. I scrolled down below the reply box that @Microfix shows, to screen shot the topic tag part you were asking about… or you can check it out next time you start a topic…

      I can’t see the jpg I posted.

      Don’t know anything about BBCodes, FWIW.

      Any help appreciated.

        @peepers,

        After you select file (double click file on your computer) options will appear at bottom of post. Select ‘as attachment’, or ‘in text’ (I think that’s the term). If you select ‘in text’ you have to select a spot by clicking on that space and then click on attach. two separate operations.

          Below the text editor box, under the heading Attachments:, click Select File to choose the file to upload, then click Insert Into Content, so that it can be viewed in your post, as well as be seen by those not logged in.

        @peepers
        ,

        As you already know, there is a “Thanks” button at the bottom of the post you want to thank. Adding a post to say thank you will likely get it deleted by a moderator. In this instance I moved your TY to this forum so I could respond without posting OFF TOPIC where it was located before. (Forum Rules)

        Don’t worry about bbcodes, they are not necessary for you to post. As Woody alluded to earlier, we all took first steps. (What we step in is another matter)

        It’s okay to question/comment on something IN a post, ask the HOW TO in this forum. We will get you up to knee deep in no time! (or not)

        I edited your TY post and selected NOTIFY, it’s at the bottom of all your posts (before clicking SUBMIT.) Doing so will alert you to replies to any post or question you might have posted.
        You must select it each time in different forums you want to be notified about.
        Clear as mud?
        Post in Peace.
