We use Word 2003 in our law firm and have a custom macro package and layout. When Word starts up, normal.dot loads, then several custom templates load on top of that.

One of our secretaries wants to add the Formatting toolbar to her layout (the custom layout has its own version of a formatting toolbar, but lacks some items she needs).

I have tried adding the Formatting toolbar, saving normal.dot, exiting and then restarting Word. On restart, the Formatting toolbar that I’ve added appears for a moment, and then disappears as the rest of the templates are loaded. If I restart again, the Formatting toolbar doesn’t appear at all, i.e., it only appears briefly on the first restart.

I thought it would be a pretty simple matter of creating another small template that would load the Formatting toolbar, but I’ve searched my Word manual and can’t find how to do that. Can someone straighten me out?

It might be easier to create a custom toolbar in her Normal.dot and copy the buttons from the Formatting toolbar that she wants to the custom toolbar.
The custom toolbar is less likely to be affected by add-ins.

Good idea, Hans. I’ll try it. Thanks.
