Get past User Name and Password

I help out with donated computers to the local Salvation Army Thrift Store. I had reinstalled Windows XP on a Gateway system and they had the system on display for sale. Someone set up a USER NAME and Password and we can not get the computer to fully start up. Is there any way to get past the need to input the password short of reinstalling Windows XP? Thanks for your help.

Reboot to safe mode (F8), log on as ‘Administrator’ > user accounts & click whats needed.
