Some may know this, already, some may not.

This evening I fixed a problem in a computer that was in a different city than I am. The work was being done using Team Viewer. The interesting ‘take-away’ here is…

It is possible to Copy something from my machine, URLs, command lines, whatever and Paste to the other machine. You can imagine what an immense help this is when working remotely.

I am in Calgary, client’s problem computer in Edmonton. Not only fixed the initial problem but, did a few other things that resulted in significantly accelerated performance.

The issue was, when trying to use Messenger was getting error message “… side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details”

I have used TeamViewer only a few times. If it doesn’t have a file transfer function, then you can’t do it with that program. I use UltraVNC. It has everything you could want, except for printing at the remote location. Setup is more difficult because you have to open 2 forwarding port on the router (5900, 5500). They also have a standalone program the you can create, then the other user can run that program to bring you in when they want. UltraVNC may be more complicated that you want, unless you plan on doing it on a regular basis for a few people.

An alternative is to keep using TeamViewer and use something like dropbox to transfer files.

Note that Teamviewer does have a file transfer function:
“All versions of TeamViewer include full file transfer with file and folder copy. For maximum speed all data is automatically compressed before transmission.”

Yes, JW is right.
Team Viewer does have a file transfer feature..

All you need to do is drag any file on to the remote desktop and it will be transfered.

I’ve been doing that….Like….forever.
I tested it many times, from one computer to another, here in my house, before going International.
I suggest that others do that.
