    Hi;

    I’m considering upgrading to FrontPage 2002, but am unsure about going through the company red tape to upgrade the server extensions to 2002. Our server is running IIS 4.0 and the FP 2000 server extensions. I know some features in FP 2002 won’t be available with the 2000 extensions running, but is there any harm in leaving the FP 2000 extensions?

    Digging through Microsoft’s site never really answered my questions regarding hanging on to the 2000 server extensions while using FP 2002:
    1. Will I be able to use background publishing?
    2. Will I be able to use single/selected file publishing?

    If I do upgrade the extensions:
    3. There’s a knowledge base article about include components and shared borders not being displayed properly in the browser when the server extensions are upgraded, yet it doesn’t say if this is a possible, isolated fluke or if I’ll have bad borders and includes in every page! We are currently using a lot of shared borders and included pages, and this could wreck our corporate intranet.

    Help, please?
    Thanks,
    Dave

      My host parcom.net and I have some experience with the puke 02 extensions. Parcom explicitly warns their clients that “upgrading” to 02 is at their own risk. I DID move to 02, and because of the problems, moved back. Of course, YMMV.

        Ah, thanks. ) Do you know, from your experience, if I still get the publishing enhancements if I leave the 2000 extensions but use FrontPage 2002?

        Regards,
        Dave

          Multiple pages can be “dragged” to publish them, if thats what u mean by publishing enhancements. Everything on the client seems to work ok, it’s the stuff on the server that is toilet

          From my pov, the 00 extensions had a few flaws, too, but most of them are bearable.

              Argh! Having gone back to 00 extensions, one of my large sites is misbehaving! 00 has trouble recalculating the hyperlinks, i believe due to the fact that there are some ‘advanced features’ being used. I autoformatted a table in 02, but it would not publish in 00. When i changed the autoformat to a manual formatting that looked the same, 00 took it. And it looks like the photogallery is another hangup; the site went south when i added yet another photogallery.

              My practice in 00 was a date stamp in the header ~ that doesnt work in 02 (!)

              i may have to go back to 02 to get things working again, but the date stamp now becomes another ‘issue’. hairout

              If you havent gone to 02 yet, i think you are better off staying with 00, but there will be pain in either case.
