    Regards from Greece!

I am using windows since first release of Win95 and in the past 25 years I got even Microsoft MCSE Windows 2000 server training.

I did spotted some one called as Canadian Tech within Microsoft forums and he did parsed links of this forum too.

This is how I discovered this forum doorbell.

I have extreme knowledge as server administrator and as user of productive software made by Microsoft and or others.

My emotional problem is that after Windows 2000 professional which was a fantastic environment for workstations serving mainly business productivity, Microsoft this lost my faith and admiration.

This period of time I made the decision to step up from office 2003 small business to 2010 Home & Business Retail.

While I am a Greek I am always using software in English, therefore I got my retail boxed pack from UK ( this is not installed yet).

Today I did spent significant time at Microsoft website looking for available Ms Office service packs so to download them in advance (off line storage and safeguarding).

Nowadays MS has Ms Office SP2 which this continuously gets manipulated (refreshed) even if the name remains unchanged (latest cooking date 12-2019).

And there is also and a second pack this named as Ms Office SP2 Language Pack April 2013.

My retail DVD (still traveling to come in Greece) this is production of 2011.

Logically thinking any one making this month a fresh install he will install SP2 of   12-2019 among with language pack updates of 2013.

My question which I am expecting a true expert to respond or answer, this is if Microsoft it does hide telemetry toys even at Ms Office of 2010?

      Hello Kiriaokos,

I’ve been running a volume licensing version of MS Office 2010 Professional Plus for around eight years. I don’t use all the products in that bundle. I can’t answer definitively if Microsoft Office 2010 hides telemetry.

Yet I would add two things you might later find useful: 1.) Office 2010 was 10 years ago, and Microsoft has since that time expanded its telemetries by leaps and bounds, and, 2.) I had recently read that Microsoft will end-of-life all security patch updates for Microsoft Office 2010 in this coming Fall, this year. I’ve yet to look into and confirm this. If so, that means that I’ll be switching to a different office suite.

If you want to turn off all or most of the Microsoft telemetries there are several good products for that. One is O&O ShutUp10, with which I’ve been content.

This page and others say that Office 2010 security patches will end this year 2020, October 13.  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search/13615

I am running Office 2010 Pro, and am aware that it will be unsupported from later this year.  I posted on AW for advice on whether to upgrade to a newer version.  The consensus seemed to be “why bother?”.

The decision to upgrade is largely dependent on what parts of Office you use, how frequently you use it, what your online behavior is, what would happen if your system was breached because of an Office security issue.

Personally, I do not want to rely on software initially released 10 years ago. That means it was designed and coded well before that. The landscape has changed significantly since then. I want something more up-to-date security wise.

      Hello Mike,

Thanks for the privacy protection software suggestion.
      This is German (European) software.
I bet that it does help and it can be trusted.

Generally speaking, Microsoft this produce piles of patches by having in mind corporate clients which they use the products of Operating system for Desktop and Operating system for server in a direct combination.

The major target this is any version of Windows server and because of that 98% of patches they have nothing to do with vast population and regular activities as is writing a document or getting emails with Outlook.

Telemetry this is a concern mostly for laptop owners, for example the bad guy will leave traces if he uses a public WiFi so to perform some sort of dirty work.

Ms Office 2010 this comes with offerings of additional downloadable applications from Microsoft if you register in their customer’s database.

I do not care of these extra services or partial gifts.

In the positive side of things, European Union this started getting active role regarding software and security among protection of personal data.

Microsoft receive huge fines from German courthouse, their software product for distribution within European Union, they are nowadays modified in favor of compliance.

I am founder of a product reviews website, information resource for electricians and diagnostic tools that we use.

The most expensive property of that I own this is my clean soul, and neither I am afraid of attackers due internet, because I do administration and moderation at my own acts as computer user and the computer this is just a productive tool and nothing more.

I might get alerted for no reason, thanks for all offered tips so far.

Sorry if it is old news.  Libreoffice would let you always get new updated versions free, and has features it did not have long ago, like I think it can open PDFs.  It does not have 100% same functions or interface as Office.  It is especially good if you are retired and nobody other than you has to work with your documents.

Or if you want to run an old MS office with less risk, you could run it in a virtual machine, or on a computer with no internet connection.
