AskWoody LoungerMarch 10, 2020 at 2:12 am #2188939Why not visit your local small PC shop and see what they can do for you. You might be quite happy with AMD Ryzen 5 3200G systems. I sell quite a few of the Ryzen with Vega graphics systems. Or, you could build your own or task someone that’s careful to do so. Use SSD’s, in any case, for optimum performance and longevity.
My 2¢.

GuestMarch 10, 2020 at 7:48 am #2189026I show several hundred HP (Elitedesk) units in stock across distribution. (IM, TD, Synnex, etc) You may have to add a memory module to bring you to 16gb, but there is inventory out there.
When inventory goes to ****, the HP refurbished division units also go to pot. While it may happen in the future, it’s not currently happening.
We are seeing shortages on lower end devices such as phones, but not in the higher end spaces at this time.
Most of what we see in inventory now, is based on equipment made 2 months ago. As China normally shuts down for Chinese new year – we are not seeing the full effect of this slowdown as of yet.

GuestMarch 10, 2020 at 6:48 pm #2189387Microcenter used to carry a lot of HP Probooks/Other Business grade laptops but I’m still seeing plenty of consumer class HP laptops and other makers’ brands as well. I guess if folks are wanting the latest generation processors from Intel that’s problematic but the AMD processor based laptops are great bargains currently. I’ve always forgone the bleeding edge generation of laptops and have made some great bargain purchases at Microcenter for HP Probooks in the past for about half of what they cost when that make/model HP Probook was leading edge.
I’ve noticed that AMD’s 2019 laptops are really great deals and have purchased an ASUS Tuf laptop with a Ryzen 3550H/Vega integrated graphics and Radeon RX 560X discrete mobile GPU for $499 and that’s not bad for the performance/features that I’m getting from that laptop. But I’m using that as a workhorse grade laptop but it was branded for gaming but most 2000H/3000H series AMD APUs can only be found in gaming laptops with that “H” branding signifying high performance. So in order to get that Desktop Replacement class laptop of old one has look for a “Gaming” grade laptop to fit the bill because it’s not as easy to get that old Desktop Replacement laptop category offered any more.
Most of the offerings are Ultrabook/Thin and Light but that’s also more available if one forgoes the latest generation designs as there are loads of last year’s makes/models of laptops still filling the inventories of the retailers and at bargain prices as retailers are trying to make room for the new generation of AMD/Intel processor based laptops/PCs.
Supplies of the newest generation of laptops are always constrained during the Q1 period of any year because CES happens in Jan and it’s not until the latter part of Q1 into Q2 that the newest generation processors and PC/Laptop designs are available for purchase/pre-order.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 10, 2020 at 7:59 am #2189036We’re in the process of replacing our remaining Windows 7 systems. We are buying recycled i5 SFF systems with 16gb of memory and an SSD hard drive. For an office worker it’s all they need.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 10, 2020 at 11:41 am #2189140I can confirm that there’s a shortage of sorts happening. Our company typically standardizes on HP systems, but we’ve had to go with Dell & Lenovo in a recent order. All three of our resellers (large multi-national ones I might add) are having trouble getting anything HP. For an EliteBook 830 G6 laptop (with run-of-the-mill specs), I was told it would be at least mid-May for availability. When prompted a bit further, one of my account managers did say that some of their bigger clients are buying in larger volumes due to the factory slowdowns in China.
Same thing is happening with x86 servers as well – have been warned of longer than usual lead times and price increases by vendors…

AskWoody PlusMarch 10, 2020 at 11:57 am #2189154HP EliteBook 830 G6 laptops are available directly from HP. Go to the HP site at https://store.hp.com/us/en and do a search for HP EliteBook 830 G6. They list six variations of which two are out of stock.
We have found HP’s own store is our best source of PCs.

GuestMarch 10, 2020 at 6:03 pm #2189343There was the DDR4 shortage that occurred sometime last year or late 2018. I haven’t heard nor seen anything from what I personally manage.
Quick check on one of my suppliers does show that they have N/A availability for the HP ProBook/EliteBook G6s. Checking one of their suppliers I know about, they list availability as “Call.” Most likely there’s an upcoming shortage and they’re holding stock to supply their major contracts.
HP doesn’t manufacture their own laptops; IIRC they’re mostly Quanta. If we start seeing sporadic outages it will most likely fall along ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) lines like Clevo or Compal and not OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) like HP.

Please review all quote Estimated Delivery Dates as all systems are being affected by Intel’s Global Supply Chain Shortages.
All orders on extended lead time due to Intel’s shortages are on a first in – first out basis through production and unable to be escalated.
