AskWoody_MVPNovember 4, 2019 at 9:10 am #1999050I’ve used most of these utilities ever since some of them came out. While we can all add our own favorites, this list could get anyone started toward maintaining our Windows PCs better and more easily.
I do use CCleaner, and I use SUMo Lite for purposes of cleaning and program updates, respectively. SUMo has many more programs supported than most other software updaters.
I use O&O ShutUp 10 to control privacy and updates settings for Windows 10 Pro. I would not trust tweaking programs which try to prevent updates from getting through. For this I use wushowhide from Microsoft. Frankly, I’m not a fan of Windows tweaking, as this can result in issues down the road when there’s a Feature Update.
While not mentioned because it’s built into Windows 10, Windows Defender is my active Windows 10 security program. Again, I do not use third party apps in this category, because they interfere with security updates and Feature Updates.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 24, 2019 at 6:28 pm #2010541I believe we should be warned when software links to “free” software that is not free for many readers. I do not like cheating developers and was annoyed when my download of Tweaking Windows had an update an I saw that it is not free for commercial use and there was a technicians paid version which was what I should be using if I am honest. I cannot have the free version of that program in my “tool kit”, only the paid Technician version.
This was a good article, but it contained links to software it was not ethical for me to use without paying for. This should be disclosed prominently in the article.
