Freeware software package with gradient tool

I am trying to find a software package which will allow me to do a gradient effect. I have photoshop but it is at home.
Does anyone know of a freeware package I have PAINT.net but could not see a gradient effect tool.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you have MS Office, the Drawing bit of Word/Excel/Powerpoint etc. will allow you to create gradients in shapes (which you can then copy/export to other software).

You could try the GIMP or Pixia both free. I haven’t a link I’m afraid just now but they should show up if you google them.
