This is not exactly about software, but it is definately a ‘Want’ — I just received notification that Yahoo will be ending its free POP email access and mail forwarding service. The choice is to go back to web-only access or pay an annual fee. Web-only service puts a lot of limitations on how the email integrates with Windows, limitations that I do not like in the least.

Any suggestions for a comparable service? Free email is easy to find, but Yahoo was the only POP-accessible one that I knew of.

Have been using it for a couple of years. Has web based and pop forward service. However, to stop what they consider spam they will not except any mail from yahoo…

That looks like a real good one. No ads, no harassment, and not having egroups is not a problem either. It also works with MailWasher. smile

Here’s a little update… I set up a myrealbox.com account but hadn’t gotten around to giving out the address to anyone or even use it online in any way at all. Yet after about two days the inbox started filling up with junk mail. Spam sent from ‘opt-in only’ type lists, affiliates of Publishers Clearing House, MSN Gaming, and a bunch of others. My suspicion is that the account name that I set up was ‘recycled’ from a previous user who had let it lapse into dormancy, and I was now receiving their junk mail.

However, a new email account, given out publicly and used online, has not generated one iota of spam. smile I believe I’ve got a keeper.

I take it myrealbox.com is a free service?
And I take it you do not really expect something for nothing in the real world?
I would expect anyone ‘giving away’ free email services to sell your address to get some income from it.

            FAQ : General
Q: Will my addresses or personal information be sold or provided to third parties?

A: No, we will not collect any personal information, and E-mail addresses will be available via the address book only, if you choose to publish your address. We will not sell or otherwise provide information about your account.

The Above is from the Myrealbox web site. I have been using myrealbox for about 4 years and there is no indication that it has ever been sold. I do have a number of addresses and when I give these out to ‘other’ sites, then I do get spam. But I really do think myrealbox is a safe place to reside…
