Can anyone tell me if they have come across some free Forum Software? I run some information web sites which dont have a high income and I would like to add some forums to each of them.

A brief subjective view of their good / bad points would be a bonus.

‘m so disorganized I couldn’t find this earlier when I looked. Some time ago, I was checking out IkonBoard but never implemented it anywhere. Might be another place to check.

(Edited by Leif to make link live – see the quick guide)

      I’ve used Snitz Forum – http://forum.snitz.com[/url%5D.

This is an MS Access/ASP solution.

It’s been running since last October without a problem and works a lot better than using a FrontPage discussion web.

If you want to see a live example, go to:

      Thanks guys.

I’ve picked up on an open source package called phpbb at http://www.phpbb.com[/url%5D. Seems very sophisticated so I’m going for that one for now. If it falls apart I’ll bear your suggestions in mind.

After an almost infinite amount of research I’d have to say the YABB (yet another bulletin board) is the best free forum out there. Excellent free support via an very active forum, when I had a minor issue with set up on a Windows 2000 server, my question was solved within the hour. It offers very similar features to this forum.

It is installed on one of my sites http://www.bbwa.torpenhow.net/cgi-bin/yabb/yaBB.cgi%5B/url%5D.

You can YABB too at http://www.yabbforum.com/%5B/url%5D.

You don’t have to worry about database issues with this, when I used an MS Access database I have problems when too many users were connected and if I had moved to MySQL I would have had to change hosting.

        Regards
        Caz

fyi: currently, version 3 is in beta…. there’s a feature summary page at the site of this hosting service http://www.freephpbb3.com/%5B/url%5D. I didn’t take time yet to compare it with the other software suggested here, but it looks pretty impressive…

          Hello there,

Anyone using phpbb3 at the moment? Other people and I have recently launched a phpbb forum site and it would be great to know that there’s more people here to exchange comments as needs arise. Our most important challenge at current is to improve the notifications system, which we find awkward.

          Regards,
