I’ve been using the free Foxit PDF Reader/Creator to “print” PDFs from my programs for years, but with V10.0.0 the Creator is part of Phantom ($139). Any suggestions on a replacement?
V9.7.2 can be downloaded with still contains the creator, but no more security updates.

I used to use Nitro which allows printing to pdf and some of my clients still do. I may be going back to it myself but am currently on Foxit 9.7.2

I’ve never used Foxit’s “Creator”, but if you’re just looking for free print-to-PDF functionality I’ve had good luck with doPDF…

      Hope this helps.

@ifubiok, if all you need is to do is print to a PDF rendition from any application then have a look at the PDFCreator Free tool.

      https://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator/download

It should provide the required PDF assembly that is now a paid for feature in the Foxit offering.

I’ve been using the Lite version 8 of novaPDF (www.novapdf.com) for a number of years now to print to PDF and been very happy with it. It costs $30 (with more capable versions for $40 and $50), which I consider reasonable and well worth it. I’d tried a couple of free alternative like CutePDF and was disappointed.  novaPDF actually gives me slightly better results with WordPerfect documents than WordPerfect’s built-in Publish to PDF feature. novaPDF is  up to version 10 now, which I’ve no experience with, but they have a 30-day free trial.

Both novaPDF and doPDF are Softland products; doPDF is their free PDF printer, and novaPDF is their paid more-full-featured offering…

Can you provide a screenshot of how you ‘“print” PDFs from my programs’?

It sounds like you just use Foxit’s virtual ‘print to PDF’ driver, which is still free and available from within Foxit Reader, via ‘Print’ (CTRL+p) within programs or via right-click context menus.

      Hope this helps…

I recently discovered that the Brave browser’s “Save as PDF” function will not only create PDFs out of Web pages, but also preserves the hyperlinks that are on the page. I believe this is a Chrome feature (Brave is a Chrome derivative).

Generally I prefer Firefox and its derivatives, but its native Print to PDF function doesn’t preserve clickable hyperlinks. Nor does Reader View if you save as PDF.

The Firefox store lists a number of PDF creator add-ons, but a lot of them look pretty sketchy and many involve uploading the desired Web page to an unknown server, where the conversion takes place.

I can confirm that the browser Save as PDF in Opera preserves hyperlinks.

Foxit reader 10 seems to remove the PDF printer and import from scanner, both of which I use – and they’ve bundled AVG and McAfee which you have to decline. Gone back to 9.7.

      cheers, Paul
