The need was simple: show service managers, the guys who oversee the wrench monkeys at your favorite car/truck dealership, a graphical view of how their warranty claims are aging, and provide it in a browser. As any of you who have tried to generate graphs on the fly, it can be something of a challenge.
Enter Software FX and their Chart FX for Web Matrix tool. For $99, I feed the add-in a record set, it draws a graph on the fly, saves it as an image file, and streams it to the browser. Software FX has much higher test tools providing more sophisticated functionality, but this was a nice way to wade in, and it satisfied the need. I test drove a number of similar tools and utilities, but this was far and away the more easy to use for a relative .Net newbie, and reasonably priced.
