I want my user to be able to enter numbers and have them appear with a % sign. I know i can format those cells with percent and 0 decimals but then the user has to type .99 to get 99%. I just want them to type 99 and have it appear 99%. I was going to try to use a worksheet_change macro such as Cells(3, “O”).Value = Cells(3, “O”).Value & “%” but was thinking there might be a easier way. Can anyone help me with this one? thanks

You could just format the cell with a custom format, 0 “%”

Go to Tools, Options and select the Edit tab. Check Enable automatic percent entry.

You can then enter the actual percent value in all cells formatted as Percentage without the leading decimal point and zeros. You do use the decimal if you want a fraction of a percent.

I’m running Excel XP on a Windows XP workstation, and I couldn’t find Enable automatic percent entry. In fact, I can’t ever recall seeing that option in any version of Excel. Have I been missing something?

Tools, Options, Edit; in XL 2000 it’s the second box down on the top right-hand side of the dialog.

Well, d-u-h-h doh , I looked right at it in both 2000 and XP and it just didn’t register. And in all the times I have looked at that dialog box, that option has escaped my notice.

Thanks for your explicit and courteour directions.

Yes, I finally found it. Gremlins had it kidnapped there for a while. I even found it in Excel 2000.

All I had to do was really look…

            Thanks.

Don’t feel dumb, I always have to ask someone where the option for “Smart Quotes” is in Word. (Our corporate style guide requires that we DON’T use “Smart Quotes” so we turn them off. In W2000 it’s in Tools, Autocorrect, AutoFormat, first checkbox under “Replace As You Type”, but usually I can’t remember that!)
