I have an WIN 98 computer that I have backed up and now “cleaning house” and starting anew.
    1. I deleted the partition (only have one)
    2. Created a new partition (only one)
    3. Displayed the partition, to verify that it did in fact create the partition.
    4. Rebooted and went to the C: prompt and typed in “formate C:” which should have started the formatting process ( I THOUGHT)

Instead, I received the error message: “invalid media type reading c:”

What’s up… is it time to press the panic button? bagged

Check here for starters about the error message.

As a side note, would suggest that since you are starting anew, you create several partitions on your drive. This can help prevent the need to do such extreme housecleaning. Also, defining a smaller partition, say a couple of hundred megs or so, and making it only used for the swap file can speed up your pc. I have twin 40g and about 8 partitions or so, one for data, one for Windows, one for programs, one for music, etc. Also helps with defragging.

Did you set the “active partition” before formatting it?
This would set the main or C: partition as the primary or boot partition.
