This question falls into both the Word and Excel categories, but I think Word users will understand the source of the question better than Excel users. Working in a legal environment, we teach our users not to use the Format Painter in Word because of the problems which can arise with extensive revisions. Is there a similar reason not to use the Format Painter in Excel? Thanks.

Not really. In word, too much direct formatting can cause alot of problems. Therefore, you should use styles to quickly update your formats and not the format painter. In Excel, though styles are available. They aren’t used much. You don’t have the problems with formatting corruption in Excel that you do in Word. You should be fine using the format painter in Excel. I’ve been using it for 10 years and have never experienced problems in Excel.

Thanks. I don’t do a lot of heavy formatting in Excel, and have never used the Format Painter. I appreciate your sharing your experience.
