• Format Negative Pecentage (Excel 2003)

    Does anyone know if you can get Excel to display a Negative Percentage as (3.5%) rather than -3.5%?
    As a workaround what I usually do is use number formats in one column and then add % in the Col next to it so you end up with (3.5)% in other words it gets split in two columns
    Is there a direct way to have Excel do this formatting.

    Regards,

      Select the cell(s) you want to change and right click on one of the cell and choose Format Cell (or go to the format menu and choose Cells….) While on the Number tab, scroll to Custom in the left hand pane, in the Type box enter:

      0.00%;0.00%;

        Your format would display -3.5% as 3.50%, and it would hide zero values.

      Yes, with a custom format.
      – Select the cell or cells that you want to format.
      – Select Format | Cells…
      – Activate the Number tab.
      – Select Custom in the list of Categories.
      – Enter the following into the Type box:

      0.0%_);(0.0%)

      The first section (before the semicolon) is for positive numbers (and zero), the second section for negative numbers.
      The _) at the end of the first section adds a space the width of a closing parenthesis ) on the right, so that positive numbers align correctly with negative ones.

    You can use BBCodes to format your content.
