Is this possible?
Help doesn’t help.
I’d like to do one or both of:
a) make the line numbers display and print in smaller type than the body text
b) make them grey, not black.
Thanks.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 22, 2009 at 2:44 pm #1153039I’d like to do one or both of:
a) make the line numbers display and print in smaller type than the body text
b) make them grey, not black. As with many of Word’s features, the “font” attributes of Line Numbers are determined by a style, in this case, the Line Number character style. While color changes are seamless, size changes may not give you exactly what you want, as they will be on the same baseline as larger text. You can tweak the Character Spacing settings (Position:Raised) to move them up a point or two.
Does it work?

AskWoody LoungerMarch 22, 2009 at 2:58 pm #1153043In W2003 & 2007, line number is a character style that you could modify to your specs.
In W2007 you’ll have to modify it in managed styles since it is hidden. Set the sort order to alphabetical to make the style easier to find. Select it and then modify it.
In the W2003 styles pane, click customs in the show drop down. Choose all styles for the category. find and put a check in the box before Line number. Click OK. Back in the styles pane, modify the style.

Thanks very much, both. Exactly what I wanted.
