format font error (Word 2000)

I have one document that when I try to do any font formatting (strikethtough, change font, etc) a Microsoft Word box pops up and says “The number must be between 1 and 600” The only choice is to click okay or X out of it. The document was not created by us. The error comes up on 2 different computers, both Word 2000, Windows XP and the font functions work fine on other documents on both computers. Any thoughts?

This refers to font scaling, probably. Try this:

– Select the entire document (Ctrl+A)
– Select Format | Font…
– Activate the Character Spacing tab.
– Enter or select 100% in the Scale dropdown.
– Click OK.

I tried that before but unfortunately when I click on the Character spacing tab, the error message came up and I can’t get to it to change it. The document does have character scaling at 0% according to “about this”

Does this work?

• Activate the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11)
• Activate the Immediate window (Ctrl+G)
• Type or paste the instruction

  ActiveDocument.Content.Font.Scaling = 100

  and press Enter
