A number of users at my firm use a screen resolution of 800×600/Large fonts. I think it’s ugly, but since they use it, I have to build stuff which will work with it.

I notice however, with this 800×600/Large font combination, that the behavior of the font display in my custom forms goes completely haywire. I only use one font and one point size in all my forms, the standard Tahoma, 8 pts., but at 800×600/Large Fonts, it appears that some Tahoma 8 pts. displayed are bigger than others?!!

    Anyone else ever encounter this?

    Thanks,

    Stephan

Have not had this exact problem, but something very similar. The fonts for some controls on a form display at 9 pt. even though I meticulously reset them (and reset them…) to 8 (it says 8 in the properties window, but, by golly, they display at run time in 9). No amount of property changing would fix the problem. Finally had to delete and recreate the controls. Beats me.

        Kevin,

I’ve seen exactly this same problem (many times crazy) and here’s how I learned to work around it from trial and error:

Make a very slight change to the Top property of the control: you can try changing it by one point or even a fraction like .50 or .25. I don’t know why, but this fixes the problem.

          Gary,

Thanks for this tip. It beats deleting the control, no?

I presume you mean they appear bigger on different displays. Have they all got Tahoma actually installed or is there some font substitution taking place ?.

It could also arise from different graphic cards/drivers.

No actually, what I meant was Tahoma 8 pts. would appear to be different sizes within the very same form.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the problem is caused by the ridiculous Large Fonts option some of my users insist on using (rather than the resolution).

I will simply take the advice of Kevin or Gary and hopefully, that’ll take care of the problem.
