Forcefully installing expired certificate

I am trying to access an IP-based video surveillance system, that a friend setup, with IE 8 from my PC (Windows 7 Pro 32-bit). The video system is a few years old. When I try to connect, IE states an add-in needs to be installed, which leads to a message asking to accept a certificate. When I accept the certificate install, I then get a message that IE blocked the installation — clicking Details shows the certificate expired in 2006. How can I get around this and accept the installation of this known-safe certificate?

Try navigating to the location of the plug-in and download the file to your PC. You should then be able to install from the local disk.

Ensure that you run IE8 “Run As Administrator” if you need to install a security certificate to any of the certificate stores. If you are running into trouble with the certificate still being rejected then you can manually install it to Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.

It will still prompt that the certificate is invalid due to the security certificate date validity period.
