So far 1 computer installed KB 4494441 on the first go and on a 2nd computer I had to go back and run “Check for Updates” again to finish the install. I have 2 more computers to get to so hopefully that “twice install” has been fixed.

I installed upadate on May 15 – seemed OK, used it for a while, then shut down. Next day, booted the PC, the update installed again. Both installations recorded in updates.

Also happened with 2019-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4497936) (2)

I think it may be caused by new Servicing Stack Updates, although all versions of Windows 10 got those on Tuesday.

If it’s fixed, the main KB article hasn’t been updated to say so.

Nope, it’s not resolved. I just updated another computer (12 pm PST) with KB 4494441 and it didn’t change the build # the first time so I had to check for updates again and it re-installed to finish going to build 17763.503. In Update history it shows that it installed twice denoted by (2) after the KB installed.

Aside from the acknowledgement, it’s not even an issue to be resolved
it’s just how CBS work, and there were many Win 7/8.1 updates that require two restarts

This month’s Windows 8.1 Preview Rollup KB4503283 required two restarts to complete (at least in my case)

those who don’t install it might get the two restarts with next month’s Security Rollup

May 15 a.m. Install of CU KB 4494441 and this a.m. (5/17) a 2nd Re-start announcement. The Re-start didn’t even re-load all of the Security apps, etc. as usual – just wham-bam and done. Will repeat Re-start  soon.

Showing 17763.503 …. For the faint of heart, – 0 – Win 10 “functional” Issues since Feb purchase …. This type of stuff I can live with if results are OK.

KB 4499728 was automatically installed on my computers [3 Notebooks and 3 Desktops] on 5/14/2019 and KB 4494441 was installed over the next 2 days on 5/15/2019 and 5/16/2019, still got the 2 installs of KB 4494441 as shown by the (2) at the end of the sentence.  Doesn’t seem to be any problems.

Can confirm this is NOT resolved. Installed twice on 1809 today 5/17/19. And 1903 is coming in the next weeks…buckle up, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!

Some information for those of you experiencing two installs of 1809.

Remember the Servicing Stack should be installed exclusively. There is a new Servicing Stack for 1809 in May – KB4499728. It is not listed in the downloads it you install through Windows Update, BUT it is bundled with the Updates.

So, I downloaded KB4499728 from the Catalog and installed it first (doesn’t request a reboot, although I did one). Then I downloaded/installed the CU, IE11 Flash, .NET, and MSRT. Rebooted, checked for updates – system is up to date without a second install.

Looks like the “twice” may be due to the exclusive install of the SSU.

Then MS should make it so… Not exactly a rocket science, could have been done years ago.

I understand that but it seems odd to me that different computers have different installation results. I had 1 computer that installed it on the first go but the next 2 computers needed to install twice. Woody’s article said that MS acknowledged the double install but supposedly fixed it. Evidently they (MS) lied again.

As to the double install, it doesn’t hurt anything as far as I know, just an irritation.
