I have a user who has a spreadsheet that he wants to insert into a Word document. But, he wants to use footnotes for some of the cells, and he wants it to work like Word’s footnote feature. I don’t have a clue how he could do this. When he inserts the spreadsheet into Word, it’s either an embedded Excel worksheet, which doesn’t have footnotes, or it’s a Word object, like a picture, and he can’t insert footnote indicators in the object and have them referenced at the bottom of the document. Any ideas?

If you want to do some VBA, it could be done, otherwise do it manually.

Ummm, I’m looking at Word 2K not 97 – but the idea is the same. When pasting the spreadsheet – use the Edit, Paste Special menu you’ll get a number of choices. In Word 2k I choose paste in RTF format. This behaves like a word table – which can be footnoted.

Bingo! Thank you SO much! I knew there had to be a way, and that someone on this board would know what it was.
