I was asked if there is a way to have a footnote in more than one place in a document without it generating a new footnote number. He has about 4 footnotes that he wants to do this with. Is there a way to “link” the footnotes?

Insert the footnote only once. Then in the other locations, use a cross reference to the footnote (Insert | Reference | Cross Reference…). Select the option to insert the formatted footnote number (or if you prefer, Above/Below).
