Just reinstalled Word 2000 on reformatted HD. Discovered list of fonts much shorter than I originally had. As a result, some .DOC files opening up in wrong fonts because originals aren’t there.
How can I expand font selection to what it was originally?

Have you chosen a default printer? Windows uses this information to see what fonts are appropriate.

Interesting thought. Haven’t yet reinstalled printer. Will do so and keep you posted.

How many of these fonts came with some other program that you have not reinstalled?

Good question, Dave; I wondered about that possibility. But if they came with another program, would they also show up in Word. For instance, where I used to have FOUR Lucida fonts, I now have just two. In general, Word’s font list is much shorter than previous.

Most programs put their fonts in the Windows font folder. But a few like Word Perfect will add them to “Their” fonts folder.
So if if you have NOT installed all of your programs that is where they are.

Suggestion, make a backup of the fonts folder and then you will always have them ALL.

DAVE: You were right on target! Checked backup made to external HD before formatting computer’s HD. All fonts I was looking for were there. Copied ’em over and all are now present and accounted for. Problem solved. THANK YOU!!!
