As shown in the attached screen shot I can not get the font size to stay large for easy reading. It always reverts back to medium usually after I read a plain text message that has no font size option (greyed out). Any ideas?

From a newsgroup search for outlook “preview pane” “font size” I get the impression that there is no way to set the font size for previewing HTML format e-mails permanently.

If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, you can use Ctrl+mousewheel (while the mouse pointer is over the preview pane) to change the font size in HTML format mails quickly (this trick is from Internet Explorer)

Thanks for looking. Your impression is the same as mine. It is a bit of an annoyance due to my need to run my laptop at 1920×1200 for a CAD app. I have adjusted everything else for larger fonts that I can (firefox, etc) and this is the last major thorn in my eyes.
