Does anyone know how to set the folder views and make it stick in each folder?

What I am looking for is to set each folder’s view according to how I work. For example, when I press file open the application Excel or Word should be at my root directory by name (with subdirectories on top). When I click on a subdirectory (folder) I need to have that view set by date to have the last file on top. Currently I have to constantly click the menu bar to get the view that I desire. This is especially true when I need to retrieve files from other folders.

I tried to Run REGEDIT and delete the following two keys:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoamBagMRU]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoamBags]”
    and restart.

This did not work for me. What has been occurring is that the last folder view is being applied across the board with Office Applications (Excel and Word) when I press file open. The dialog box displays the last folder view even when I close Excel or Word then open it again. In W2000 each folder view would remain but in XP is uses the last folder view.

The last folder view is also applied in Explorer (hence I don’t know if this is an Explorer, XP, or Office problem).

    thanks

I hope someone else will chime in here because I’m not sure I know the answer to your question. The two registry keys you mention were intended in my earlier post to address an oddity in Windows XP, not the Office Suite of products. Windows XP has a tendancy to have difficulty remembering settings, but I think you’re describing something that is built in to Office. I use Office 2000 and its applications always open to the last view “type” used. You CAN change which folder they start in by setting the default in Tools, Options. Can anyone else contribute?

The previous version that I used was Office 2000 with W2000 and I believe that the settings did stick (hope my memory does not fail me on this). In any case, hope someone can either explain or provide a solution.
        thanks
