Flexible Find/Replace Utility (2000)

Somewhat frequently I find the need to select a range of cells, and for example, replace the 3rd through 9th characters in the formula with 7 characters of my own choosing, or replace the last character in the formula with a different character, or prepend a formula with a different operator, etc. Has anyone out there seen or written such a utility? The stock Find/Replace with Excel 2000 seems somewhat inadequate and certainly not very speedy for replacing strings within formulas.
