I deal with many budgets that are on an Oct 1 to Sep 30 fiscal year. When I pull a a database of accounts and monthly balances into a pivot table, the month columns appear in the correct order, that is (e.g.) Oct 2003 thru Sep 2004. If I then use the grouping feature to group the months by quarters the month order changes to (using the same example months) Jan 2004 thru September 2004, then Oct 2003 thru Dec 2003, losing the year portion of the headings in the process.

How can I make Excel recognize Oct – Dec as the “1st” quarter of my fiscal year in pivot tables?

    Thanks,
    Ken

Specify that you want to group by years and by quarters.

Thanks. I thought it would be something simple. Duh.
